“A Sense Sublime”: Wordsworth, Constable and The Lakes.
Bender Grosvenor will explore how the dramatic scenery of the Lake District was one of the secret ingredients behind the emergence of British landscape painting in the 18th and 19th centuries. His new book The Invention of British Art is a frank assessment of the history of British art that reveals how the art of this country has been created, what made it distinctive and why it took so long to emerge.
